Firoz Khan is Associate Professor in Development Studies at the University of Stellenbosch School of Public Leadership (SPL).
Prior to joining SPL in 2003, Firoz co/authored numerous White Papers of the first post-apartheid administration. In 1997, Firoz was appointed Head of the Parliamentary Research Unit and was later Senior Researcher at the Western Cape Provincial Development Council, a regional social dialogue institution. Upon joining SPL, Firoz contributed to the national housing strategy and worked interchangeably for Ministry/Department of Human Settlements in the capacity of researcher and advisor to the N2 Gateway Project Team.
In 2012, Firoz was appointed Senior Research Fellow at the School of Economic and Business Sciences, University of Witwatersrand. In 2019. Firoz was a Visiting Honorary Professor at the O.P Jindal Global University in Haryana, India. He is presently a Visiting Professor at the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (Russia); Research Fellow at the Observer Research Foundation in Delhi (India); and Senior Researcher at FGV in Brazil (Fundação Getúlio Vargas-Centro de Pesquisa e Documentação de História Contemporânea do Brasil – FGV-CPDOC, Rio de Janeiro).
From 2010 to 2020, Firoz served on the Exco and Board of the Harold Wolpe Memorial Trust. Firoz is a Board member of the International Development Public Policy Alliance (IDPPA). Established in 2013, the IDPPA comprises the Directors of 10 distinguished public policy schools in the global south whose aim is to champion and enhance the development policy autonomy of the global south through partnerships, teaching, research, training, policy engagement and advocacy.
